Embrace Action: AAUP Chapter Meeting and FIU Walkout
As many of us reel from UM leadership's resigned response to higher education funding cuts and the assault on academic freedom, the AAUP plans to embrace action rather than embracing the "change" currently on offer in DC and in Tallahassee. We are not alone. Below are three ways you can get involved. We begin by highlighting our own chapter meeting with subsequent events listed in chronological order.
-->2/19: AAUP Chapter Meeting
Next Wednesday from 5PM - 6:30PM, we will hold our first general AAUP chapter meeting in the St. Bede Chapel Courtyard. Show that you support your fellow colleagues by attending and helping plan our next actions.
-->2/13: Emergency Action (Tomorrow/Thurs.)
We just learned of a planned walkout at FIU tomorrow in response to DeSantis's installation of his Lieutenant Governor as their university's president. If you have time to show your solidarity at noon tomorrow (2/13, Thursday), join them. We will continue collaborating and coordinating with our friends and colleagues at FIU in the months and years ahead. Our strength lies in our numbers. To participate and find out more, click here.
-->3/4: Webinar on Academic Freedom (Register Now)

The AAC&U (American Association of Colleges and Universities), a partner organization with the AAUP and AFT, will be hosting an online seminar on their report of faculty views of academic freedom. You can register here.
Coming Next Time . . .
In our next newsletter issue, we will provide an overview of applications, programs, and portable operating systems that you can use to communicate and organize with greater security online. We will also direct you to protest guides if you're concerned about being tracked or identified.
